CNG to benefit from new mileage rules, state officials say

Tulsa World -- Oklahoma Energy Secretary Mike Ming is pleased with recent federal fuel efficiency standards in the wake of concerns that the rules would hamper efforts to convert state fleets to compressed natural gas.The White House this week announced Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards that would increase the fuel economy equivalent of 54.4 mpg for cars and light-duty trucks by model year 2025.Advocates argue the rules will reduce dependence on foreign oil, lower emissions and reduce fuel costs for drivers.Oklahoma is among 22 states seeking proposals to help convert state fleets to natural gas.

It seems that quite a few people write-off NG as a viable option. NG is cheaper, more prevalent, burns cleaner and is abundantly produced right here in the US. No imports are needed and the production process would support American jobs.

Sure, it will take time and effort to convert to NG but it is still a much better option than being held captive to foreign oil. Approximately 25% of the cost each American pays at the pump goes directly to OPEC, Venezuela (Chavez) and even Russia. The average gas-pumper doesn’t think about the fact that he/she is giving $500-$1000 per year to support these “unfriendly” nations. Another 10% of the price heads north to our friends in Canada, but it still means the money leaves the country.

Hopefully our schools can still teach people to think for themselves. The choices are obvious but it takes time to “unwash” the brains of some of those we live with.

It simply makes sense to move forward towards the use of natural gas or electric vehicles. Most residential properties already have either natural gas, electricity or both already piped or wired to the buildings. In most cases, contractors could extend the natural gas lines/electric chargers to garages or parking structures for nominal costs. The convenience of refueling your vehicle at home would become the new normal thing to do.

The downside would be the loss of many gas stations and convenience stores. But in reality is that really a loss?

Rather than cowering before the lawless and unconstitutional EPA, Governors and state legislatures should be banding together in order to "nullify" any illegal (and unconstitutional) acts by the Federal government and their agencies. All that they need to do is inform the FED that these illegal and lawless edicts will NOT be enforced withing their state boundaries and that any attempt by those who would try to enforce these unconstitutional acts would be subject to prosecution and, if convicted, incarceration and fines BIG TIME.

Go to the TenthAmendmentCenter.com to learn how many states are passing State legislation on interposition (Nullification) and how YOU can become involved in this Patriotic effort.

"We need more CNG stations. "

They will come. But I suspect a lot of people who already have NG at home will just install compressors and avoid the CNG stations altogether. Gas station owners may be reluctant to install facilities for CNG under such conditions.

Here's my impression of most people on this forum - no matter the topic:

"Obama, Obama, Obama, Obama......"

It must really suck having to support Mitt Romney.

What we see happening here are the ideas of Obama and Steven Chu coming into fruitition. They are getting their wish to make cars too expensive for most people to own, and thereby making them better able to afford government (public) transportation. Obama's Socialist ideas become more apparent every day

The added weight for ASTM pressure vessels for CNG will cause losses in MPG.

If all of these obama underlings support Natural Gas then what excuse does obama have for not supporting it? With a push from obama Government Motors and Chrysler would be selling Natural Gas bi fuel cars, not just trucks but cars for everyone. So what is the real reason obama has for not supporting Natural Gas
